Beware of Domain Name Scam Letters

Are you a business owner? Do you have a website? If so, then you need to be aware when you receive a letter from “Domain Name Corp”.

It has caught my attention that, recently, a few of my clients has been receiving this letter and was about to pay for it, thinking their domain name is due. Luckily, most of them got in touch with me to confirm whether this letter is legitimate or not. In their surprise, only to find out that this is an overpriced domain registration letter; border-lining scam.

At first look, this letter will seem like a renewal letter sent out by a fairly legitimate domain corporation – Domain Name Corp. But if you take a closer look, the title of the letter is “Domain Name Available”, and in this example, the domain name listed on the letter is available, because my client has a ‘’ domain.

They are targeting business owners that has a ‘’ domain and is offering them the same domain name ending in ‘.com’ for $249 for 2 years – which is way overpriced, as you shouldn’t need to pay more than $50 for it.

Further down the letter, in a finer print, it says “This is an invitation to register an available domain name – if you are not the proprietor or do not wish to register, disregard this letter. Our terms of service can be found at”.

In my own personal opinion, “disregard this letter” at first sight is what a business owner should do when they receive this; don’t get scammed or overpay for a domain.

If you have questions or concerns about your domain or hosting, please feel free to get in touch for a chat.
